Case Study IV: Website Migration for EntheoNation
Overview
At Serenichron, we help businesses grow by solving tough challenges. This is how we assisted EntheoNation, owned by Lorna Li, in reclaiming control of her website. Lorna had been stuck with a restrictive vendor that required a monthly payment to host her website and podcast but offered very limited flexibility.
The Challenge
EntheoNation’s previous provider had a subscription model that didn’t allow the owner to customize her site to her needs. All changes had to go through the vendor, and many requests were either denied or delayed. This setup made it difficult for Lorna to run her business effectively, preventing her from making necessary updates and expanding her offer.
Our Approach
To help EntheoNation gain independence from the vendor, we aimed to transfer as much content as possible to a new platform that the owner would fully control. Here’s how we approached the project:
- Content Extraction: The vendor restricted access to files, themes, and code, which they considered proprietary. Only the database content was made available. Because of that, we were only able to use WordPress’s export tool to retrieve the content, not the code. This allowed us to save the essential site information, ready for use in a new setup.
- Podcast Preservation: EntheoNation’s podcast, with over 100 episodes, was a major part of Lorna’s content. We ensured each episode would remain indexed and accessible on the new website.
- Redesign and Feature Upgrades: In collaboration with the owner, we redesigned the website with a fresh look and new features to meet her needs as a launch-based marketer.
- Integrations: We set up integrations with her email marketing tools (either ConvertKit or Ontraport), e-commerce, and lead generation tools using the Thrive suite.
Technical Setup
To provide stability and prevent issues from automatic updates, we built a robust backend setup:
- Roots Trellis Stack: We deployed the site using this approach for reliable server management and scalability.
- Bedrock Boilerplate: This structure allowed us to create development and testing environments without affecting the live site.
- Hosting on DigitalOcean: We hosted the website on DigitalOcean, giving the owner a dedicated environment that she controlled.
- Custom Theme and Builder: At Lorna’s request, we used Beaver Builder, creating a unique layout and giving her flexibility to make edits without external support.
Outcome
From September to March, we completed the migration and handed the client a fully functional, independent website. With her new setup, Lorna now has full control over her website’s design, functionality, and future updates.
